Penny Simkin is basically the godmother of all doulas. She’s a physical therapist, childbirth educator, and doula who is one of the founders of DONA International (the organization I am certified through). I watched the below video the other day, made by Penny, and was struck by her message about the importance of birth memories. In short: women remember their births forever–they remember not only the positive, but also the negative, how they were treated, what was said, what was NOT said. Having a supported birth can make all the difference, not only in the actual moment, but years to come when you look back on your birth. Birth matters!!! It really does.
